Minister’s Message 18 May
Dear Friends,
The General Assembly of the Church of Scotland opens this morning (Saturday) and runs through till next Thursday. The Moderator Designate is the Rev Rosie Frew who is parish minister in Melrose, having previously served in Fife. The Lord High Commissioner (the King's representative at the Assembly) is Lady Elish Angiolini a former Solicitor General and the first female Lord Advocate, and is currently Principal of St Hugh's College in Oxford.
Attending the Assembly from Kinross are Gordon McFarlane who is one of Perth Presbytery's commissioners to the Assembly, and also Alex Johnson who, along with his fellow probationers, is there to observe.
Please pray for all the business of the Assembly, from consideration of reports about all areas of the Church's work and strategic planning for the coming years to a debate on the question of Assisted Dying which is currently also before the Scottish and Westminster Parliaments.
Let me draw your attention to a couple of special events locally during the week ahead. On Wednesday evening there is an evening in the Green Hotel organised by Solas, the Centre for Public Christianity, exploring how we can most effectively share our faith in Christ with those around us. Further details can be found here https://www.solas-cpc.org/event/loch-leven-2025/ All are welcome. There is no charge.
Next Sunday evening at Portmoak Church, Lorna Ferguson whose parents, Harry and Jeanette McLellan live in Kinnesswood, will be speaking about her work with OMF in Japan. The service begins at 6.30pm and again all are welcome.
As Christian Aid Week draws to a close, please consider making a donation either via one of the offering envelopes available at the Church or directly via https://www.christianaid.org.uk/give
I look forward to seeing you at worship on Sunday.
Blessings!
Alan
