Minister’s Message 12 July

11 Jul 2026

Dear Friends,
I am writing to you from Debrecen in Hungary on the last day of what has become known over the last 10 years or so as the 'Scottish Camp' held in partnership with the congregation of the Great Church. Last Sunday Alex brought greetings from Kinross-shire to the morning service in the Great Church and Alan was the preacher.

A team of seven of us enjoyed warm hospitality in Debrecen, renewing old friendships and making new ones, as we have been involved with members of the Great Church in teaching English and in sharing the Gospel with some 30 young people at the camp. I would like to pay tribute to the team of adults and teenagers who have worked together harmoniously and fruitfully throughout the week. With the camp now behind us, we will be travelling home on Saturday by minibus from Debrecen to Budapest and then by air to Edinburgh in time for worship in Kinross-shire on Sunday. Please pray that our partnership will continue to deepen in the coming years and that it will have an impact for good in our two communities.

Three members of the Great Church will be with us in Kinross-shire for 10 days at the start of August around Family Week, and if anyone would be willing to offer hospitality, we would be very grateful for offers of an evening meal or an invitation to take them for an outing one day. Please be in touch with Alex or me in the first instance to discuss what you could offer.

Also, if anyone of any age from across the united parish would be interested in being involved in next year's trip, whether joining the team in Hungary, helping with preparations or raising funds, please also get in touch with one of us and we will be happy to give you further information.

This Sunday, our mission partners, Ruth and Duncan Jack will be taking part in the morning service in Kinross Church to talk about the work of Mission Aviation Fellowship in Uganda and across Africa. Do come along for the service in Kinross or bring a picnic lunch to share after the service anytime from 12 noon to learn more about this inspiring work.

It's so easy to forget that as we gather in our various congregations week by week we are also part of something much bigger – the church universal – and that God is drawing together a diverse family of people of all nations and languages. Each of us has a unique part to play.

With all prayerful good wishes,

Alan
