Minister’s Message 11 May

09 May 2025

Dear Friends

There are a few things I would like to highlight this week.

The Loch Leven Half Marathon takes place this Sunday morning so please make yourself aware of road closures that might affect you on your way to church.

Tomorrow is the start of Christian Aid Week and there is an opportunity to contribute at the church service if you wish. Please make your offering in one of the Christian Aid envelopes in the vestibule and complete the Gift Aid declaration if you are a tax payer,  or visit the Just Giving page.

If you are reading this on Saturday, do take note of the fact that there are two events this afternoon at Cleish Church – an organ recital at 3pm and a service of Sung Evensong at 4.15pm. All are welcome.

The united Kirk Session met this week and, in addition to approving the final accounts for the four previous congregations, made progress on establishing new Teams which will oversee the work of the congregation going forward. These Teams will be responsible for the frontline work of the Church - Worship & Discipleship; Youth and Family; Fellowship & Pastoral; Outreach & Community – and also the crucial support roles of administration, communication, finance and property. These Teams will report to meetings of the whole Eldership four times a year. A smaller body of Trustees has been appointed who will meet more frequently to ensure good charity governance. In due course interested members of the united congregation will be able to be involved in the work of the Teams according to your gifts and interests.

The next quarterly special collection will be taken on communion Sunday (1st June) for the work of the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance and I commend that to you on behalf of the Kirk Session.

The Stated Annual Meeting of the united congregation will take place (later than usual this year) at a united service to be held in Orwell Church on Sunday 29th June. There will be an opportunity at that meeting to raise any questions you may have and also to give thanks for the service of those elders who are stepping down from an active role.

A huge amount of behind the scenes work has been done over the last few months in establishing the structures of the united parish. Although that work is not glamorous or particularly obvious it is important in laying good foundations for the future ministry and mission of Kinross-shire Parish Church. Please continue to pray for the elders as the Teams begin to meet.

With all prayerful good wishes.

Alan
