Minister’s Message 1 June

30 May 2025

Dear Friends

We celebrate our quarterly Communion this Sunday, an act in which we join together to remember and proclaim the significance of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. These events are historical, having happened millennia ago, yet, as our Bible reading this week reminds us, the work of Jesus is ongoing.

Over the last few weeks we have read the ‘Farewell Discourses’ from John's gospel; words of insight that Jesus wanted to impart to his disciples on the night of that first Communion. Jesus ends this teaching by praying for his disciples. This is an intimate prayer, full of care towards them. Jesus is deeply invested in those gathered around him and prays earnestly for them.

So, as we come to share in Communion together, we can be reminded that, although ascended into heaven, Jesus is still active. In a slightly weird sounding sentence, God is praying for us. Jesus' heart is still turned towards us, invested in us, and interceding for us whatever our circumstances.

I hope the service on Sunday and our celebration of the sacrament in some way enables you to feel the ongoing love that Jesus has for you.

If you are joining us online, can I invite you to have something to eat and drink ready at the start of the service so you can share with us in the Lord's Supper. For those joining us in-person, let me remind you that there will be no refreshments after the service.

Let me also note that our offering this Sunday will go to Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance. You can find out more about their work by visiting scaa.org.uk.

Every blessing.
