Minister’s Message 6 July

04 Jul 2025

Dear Friends

As you pick up this message on Saturday morning, I will be travelling with the summer mission team from our congregation to the Great Church in Debrecen. We leave on the Ember bus just before 6 on Saturday morning for the flights from Edinburgh to Budapest via Amsterdam and then a minibus journey about 150 miles from Budapest to Debrecen arriving there in the evening to settle in to our accommodation.

The team comprises 6 young people – Zoë, Ewan, Andrew, Corinne, Rachel and Juliet – along with Brenda, Lynn, Shona and myself (the not-so-young!).

On Sunday morning we will be joining the congregation of the Great Church for worship where the team will be sharing a song that we will be using during the Camp and I will be preaching on the same passage that Irene is taking here in Kinross. We are invited for lunch and then we will probably be getting set up at the school for the Camp which begins on Monday morning and runs each day from 9-4. We will be leading four hour-long sessions each day, two hours focused on English language, one hour with a Bible focus and one hour of games or crafts (including teaching some Scottish Country dancing).

I think the Hungarians have some cultural activities planned for us during the week including a farewell barbecue on the Friday evening. On the Saturday we will be taking the train back to Budapest where we will have the opportunity to do some sightseeing. We will stay overnight in the city, attend morning worship at the Scots Kirk in Budapest, and then make our way to the airport for our return flights in the afternoon. Please pray for us, that we may travel safely and have a fruitful week leading the Scottish Camp.

Please also remember in your prayers a number in the congregation who have recently been bereaved. A former elder of the congregation, Ian Simpson, has died - his funeral will be in the church on Wednesday 16 July at 1.30pm.

With all prayerful good wishes,

Alan
