Minister’s message 24 August

22 Aug 2025

Dear Friends,
So it begins! The school term and many of our groups have restarted. While the
contrasting rhythm of summer gives us space or adventure for simply a different
to-do list than usual, the return of the term-time calendar marks a point of
reconnection with people and recommitment to whatever acts of service we feel
called to. I hope you enter into this season feeling refreshed and enthused.
As I have covered for different ministers over the last few weeks, I have taken the
theme of discipleship around each of the worshipping centres. Exploring what it
means to follow Jesus, particularly in light of Jesus’ striking comments about the
cost of discipleship at the end of Luke 9. Each centre has had the chance to
discuss what motivates their discipleship, reflect on their encounters with God,
and consider their own response to God.
Much like the seasons, our discipleship, our response to God, shifts. It matures,
deconstructs, starts again, slips from our minds, and takes great leaps of faith.
So as with any of the turning points in our year (whether they are seasonal,
liturgical or calendrical) we are given the opportunity to consider where we are
headed and what might be our next step.
Each one of you has a journey with God, an evolving relationship with the divine. I
wonder where it will take you this term. And I wonder what service the church
may give you on your way.

Every blessing,

Alex Johnson
Probationer for Kinross-shire Parish Church
