Minister’s Message 23 November
Dear Friends
Although this is not perhaps the best time of year to be asking people to consider taking on something new, I'm not sure that there is ever a good time to ask for volunteers. But that is what I need to do in order to bring to your attention some gaps that exist. I want to ask everyone to be involved in prayer for the many different ministries of the church and perhaps to give a nudge to someone who might not feel confident enough to offer themselves.
Ideally, each of our groups is headed up by a small team of people who can give each other mutual support in the responsibilities of leadership. It also means that when one person steps down from a role it doesn't leave us with a crisis.
Volunteering vacancies are regularly mentioned in the weekly intimations and at the moment we are particularly looking for the following:
- someone to be involved in the redesign of the united church website.
- helpers for Crossfire (our group for teenagers on a Sunday evening)
- someone to shadow our current Finance Convenor for a time before taking over that role during the coming year
- helpers to staff our regular church presence at the monthly Farmer's Market
- new people to do readings or prayers at church on Sunday mornings
If you would like to volunteer for something but are not sure how your skills could be used, please have a word with me and I can perhaps point you in the right direction.
I also want to say a huge thank you to all who are already volunteering in a huge variety of roles. We really could not be what we are as a congregation without your dedicated service. Thank you.
Every blessing
Alan
