Minister’s message 29 November
Dear Friends
Today, Saturday 29 November, has been designated by the Church of Scotland as a Day of Prayer across the nation. It is the eve of St Andrew's Day, which this year falls on the First Sunday of Advent and is a good time to be seeking God's comfort, strength and help following the challenges of recent years.
Although we have unfortunately not yet got our local organisational structures in place to the point where we could have arranged prayer gatherings across the united parish today, I do want to invite each of you to take some time today consciously to set apart for prayer for our nation, for the church in Scotland and for the work of the Gospel here in Kinross-shire, not least for the Nominating Committee as they seek God's leading in the call of a second full-time minister in our united parish.
Some helpful resources are available to lead you in your praying at the following link: https://www.churchofscotland.org.uk/worship/prayers/national-day-of-prayer#139662-1
If you would like to unite with others across the country, the first and last hours of the Day Of Prayer will be live-streamed at 11am from Martin's Memorial Church in Stornoway at https://vimeo.com/event/5526893?fl=so&fe=fsand at 7pm from Holy Trinity Church in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh at https://www.youtube.com/live/hkP7JoJP-s4
In 2 Chronicles 7:14 we hear this call: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
Jesus said, "Without me, you can do nothing." (John 15:5) and that is a reminder to us at this time to depend upon Him rather than pressing on in our own strength. Jesus also says, "All things are possible with God" (Mark 10:27) and the apostle Paul reminds us that God is "able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine." (Eph.3:20) So let's pray!
Every blessing,
Alan
