No. 1 Fairtrader Outlet in the UK!

No. 1 Fairtrader Outlet in the UK!

The Traidcraft team based at Kinross Parish Church has been the top sales outlet in Scotland for several years, but this year they have trumped even that to become the most successful team in the whole UK! This UK success could not have been achieved without the support of other churches and businesses within Kinross-shire which receive goods from the KPC team to use and sell.

Karena Jarvie, one of our Traidcraft organisers, says: “A huge thank you to everyone who has helped us make the wonderful amount of £21,617 this year. Whatever you buy, whether large or small, it all counts.” Traidcraft sales at KPC began in John Munro’s time as minister, with Pat, his wife, and others, introducing us to this excellent charity which was founded 40 years ago, describing itself then as “a movement of radical church based individuals who import goods directly from artisans and growers and distribute them directly to shoppers in the UK, cutting out the middlemen”. It was, in fact, at the forefront of the whole fairtrade movement.

Irene McFarlane of our congregation says: “Anyone who has purchased goods from the lovely folk at the Traidcraft stall on Sundays will be well aware of their superb sales skills. You just have to glance in the general direction of a packet of chocolate chip biscuits and you find you’ve purchased it! The friendly and dedicated sales skills of Karena and her team are so effective that they could have rescued British Home Stores from insolvency. From the customers’ point of view it is so effortless - we buy items that would be on our weekly shopping list anyway, and they are items of quality. The sale of these Traidcraft goodies can be seen as part of our outreach to support our neighbours in every continent in the world.”.

Karena concludes: “Thanks to our outlets old and new for their continued support, and if there is anybody who thinks they can maybe start using tea, coffee or other goods either at their work or at home then please come and have a chat with one of the Traidcraft team, who can give you some samples to try. We need to continue to buy as much as possible, to support producers in 29 countries throughout the world by giving them a route to market and paying them a FAIR price”.
